Cotton swabs are sold by the thousand and specified by the stem. Rich Medical supplies wooden and plastic stems in 3, 6 and 8 inch lengths with Φ5, Φ10 and Φ20 mm heads, in bulk bags for clinic and industrial use and in sterile packs for procedure trays.
Stem material decides the market
Wooden stems are the traditional hospital and dental choice: stiff enough to press against a wound, biodegradable, and cheap per thousand. Plastic stems bend rather than snap and are preferred for cosmetics, electronics cleaning and any use where a splinter is a risk. Both are supplied in the same head sizes, so a customer can switch material without changing the rest of the specification.
Length and head diameter
3 inch with a Φ5 mm head is the general-purpose swab for ear, nose and throat work and for applying antiseptic. 6 inch Φ5 mm reaches into a throat or a deep wound; 6 inch Φ10 mm carries more fluid for painting a wide area. 8 inch Φ10 mm and 8 inch Φ20 mm are used for industrial cleaning, specimen work and large-area disinfection, where a standard swab would need to be replaced several times.
Bulk packing and sterile packing
Non-sterile swabs are packed 100 to a bag, 10 bags to a box and 10 or 20 boxes to a carton for the 3 and 6 inch sizes; the 8 inch sizes drop to 50 or 20 per bag. Sterile applicators are packed 5 per peel pack, 100 packs per bag and 10 bags per carton, or 2 per pack and 45 bags per carton for the heavier heads. Both routes carry the batch and sterilisation reference on the carton.
Where the volume comes from
Clinics, dental surgeries, tattoo studios, laboratories and cosmetics. Because the item is cheap and bulky, freight often exceeds the unit cost — a mixed order that fills the carton cube with two or three lengths is usually better value than a single-length pallet. We quote carton dimensions with every offer so the cube can be planned.
OEM and private label
Bag printing, box printing and carded retail packs are all available. For retail we can supply a printed card with a hanging hole so the pack works on a pegboard. For procedure trays we count to your pack specification and deliver in bags marked for that tray.
