The kidney basin is the item every dressing trolley needs and no one wants to overpay for. Rich Medical supplies 500 ml basins at 22 g and 700 ml basins at 18 g and 33 g, in polypropylene that holds its shape when loaded and stacks without jamming.
Three weights, three jobs
The 18 g 700 ml basin is a light single-use item for holding swabs and small volumes; it is packed 300 to a carton, which makes it the cheapest per unit. The 22 g 500 ml basin is the general ward size, stiff enough to be carried one-handed when part-full. The 33 g 700 ml basin is the theatre weight: it resists flexing when a loaded basin is set down on a stand, and it does not crack if it is knocked.
Why gram weight matters more than volume
Two basins can both say 700 ml and behave completely differently. A light basin flexes under a full load, spills at the pour lip and can split at the rim; a heavy basin costs more per unit and more in freight. Buyers who have had a spill in a corridor usually move up a weight. We quote the gram weight per piece, not just the volume, so the comparison is honest.
Carton and container planning
500 ml at 22 g ships 250 per carton at 230×230×440 mm; 700 ml at 33 g ships 100 per carton at 280×260×250 mm; 700 ml at 18 g ships 300 per carton at 600×400×260 mm. Basins nest, so the carton cube is driven by nesting depth rather than by count — a change of rim design can move the count by 50 pieces, which is why we confirm the drawing before production.
Single use and the sterilisation question
Basins are supplied non-sterile for single use. Where a basin enters a sterile field it is packed inside the sterile dressing pack and sterilised with the pack, which is how most theatres actually consume them. Loose basins are for the trolley, the sluice and the ward round.
Repeat supply
Basins are a repeat item on a hospital contract, so consistency of weight and colour between batches matters more than the price of the first order. We hold the mould and the approved sample for the life of the contract, and batch records allow a delivered carton to be traced back to the production run.
