A biohazard bag is a compliance item, not a commodity: it has to hold its contents without leaking, carry the right colour and symbol for the waste stream, and survive the handling between the ward and the incinerator. Colour and symbol are not decoration
Red is used for infectious clinical waste that will be incinerated; yellow for waste that needs incineration or an approved route under most national protocols; black for domestic waste that must never enter the clinical stream. The biohazard symbol, the word BIOHAZARD and the language of the destination market are printed in a contrasting ink so the bag can be identified at arm's length. We print to the colour code your protocol names rather than to a generic standard.
Film and seam strength
The bag is only as good as its seam. Bags are made from virgin film rather than reprocessed material, with a reinforced bottom seam and a side-weld that is checked by inflation and by a static load test on a sample per batch. A bag that splits in a corridor is an exposure incident, so we would rather quote a heavier gauge than win the order on micron count.
Closure and handling
Tie-top, drawstring and adhesive-tape closures are all available. Drawstring is preferred where bags are hung on a trolley; tie-top where the bag is carried by hand; tape closure where the bag is sealed and then labelled. The bag can be printed with a label panel for ward, date, weight and signature, which removes a separate label from the process.
Sizes, packing and carton marks
Sizes follow the bin, not the catalogue, so we quote against your bin dimensions and the fill weight you expect. Packing is normally 50 or 100 bags per roll or pack and 10 to 20 packs per carton, with the UN number, the waste stream and the batch printed on the carton. Tell us the bin size and the waste stream and we will return a drawing.
Documentation
Material specification, film gauge, seam test record and the printed artwork proof are supplied with the quotation. Where the destination market requires a declaration of conformity for the film, we provide it with the shipment.
