A sterile eye pad has to do three things at once: stay sterile until it is opened, sit flat over a closed lid without pressing on the globe, and release from the skin without pulling. Rich Medical supplies non-woven and gauze pads in four sizes from 4.1×6.7 cm to 6×8 cm, one per sterile bag.
Non-woven or gauze
The non-woven pad has a smoother face, sheds less fibre and is the usual choice after cataract and refractive surgery, where a stray fibre under the lid is a real complaint. The gauze pad is more absorbent and more breathable and is used in casualty and general ward work, and for padding under a shield. Both are supplied in the same four sizes, so a hospital can standardise on one size and change material by department.
Four sizes and what they fit
4.1×6.7 cm is the small pad for paediatric and post-injection use; 5×7 cm and 5.4×6.7 cm are the standard adult sizes that fit inside a plastic eye shield; 6×8 cm covers a larger orbit and is used for padding after trauma. Note that the catalogue lists some sizes in millimetres and some in centimetres — both refer to the same pad, and we confirm the exact dimension on the drawing before production.
Sterilisation and pack integrity
Pads are packed one per bag, 50 bags per box, 50 boxes per carton — 2,500 pads per carton. Sterilisation is by ethylene oxide with aeration, and the bag is a paper-film peel pack so the pad can be dropped onto a sterile field without touching it. Each carton carries the sterilisation batch and the expiry so a hospital can trace a pack back to the load.
What buyers check on arrival
Three things fail incoming inspection most often: a pad that is creased so it will not sit flat, a bag with a weak seal at the chevron, and a batch label that does not match the carton. Our final check covers seal strength on a sample per batch, flatness against the approved sample, and label-to-carton reconciliation. The certificate of analysis and EO sterilisation record are supplied with the shipment.
Eye pads as a kit component
Most of this line is consumed inside ophthalmic dressing packs and casualty kits rather than bought loose. If you assemble packs, we can supply pads counted to your pack specification and deliver them in bags marked for that pack, which is usually cheaper than buying 2,500 and counting them yourself.
